Where were you born?
Pittsburgh, PA but my parents met and married in Cleveland and since I was born nine months and three days later, there’s a good chance I was conceived here.
Where did you grow up?
Pittsburgh, PA and yes I’m a Steelers fan. It’s in your DNA if you’re born there. However, I’ve lived in Cleveland long enough to wish the Browns would stop breaking the hearts of their fans.
Where have you lived other than Cleveland?
Born in Pittsburgh then made a tour of West Virginia. No surprise since Pittsburgh is kind of like the “Paris” of Appalachia so it makes sense that a granola girl like me would head south into the mountains. I’ve lived in Morgantown, Clarksburg, Huntington and Charleston and from there headed north to Columbus, Ohio. Being land locked wasn’t cool, so I had to get to Cleveland to be near the Lake.
What was your last non-radio job?
I was the Blue Light special girl at K-Mart. It’s likely where I got my start in broadcasting.
How do you spend your time outside the station?
I front two bands, the classic rock ‘Whiskey Kings’ and the current country ‘Ninja Cowboys’. One of my bands is playing almost every weekend. Learn more at www.monicarobins.com
Who are your favorite Cleveland artists, past or present?
Nine Inch Nails, Joe Walsh, Michael Stanley (cause he’s a really nice guy), Kristine Jackson and I’m really digging Welshly Arms.
What was your first concert?
Rush, but it wasn’t my first experience with a contact buzz.
What is the first album you ever bought?
AC/DC Back in Black.
What are your favorite movies?
Jaws. Because when that movie came out I was that nerdy kid who knew everything about sharks. I wanted to be a marine biologist. My parents took me to see it (even though I was too young) and I rooted for the shark the whole time.
What are your favorite TV shows, past or present?
Cop shows and sitcoms are pretty much my normal life and since I’m still a nerd, I love Game of Thrones, Outlander and any really good show on Netflix I can binge.
What is on your bucket list?
I’m a little concerned because I’ve filled most of it. However, being at Stonehenge during the summer or winter solstice would be cool.
What is your greatest indulgence?
Too. Much. Sugar.
What quote do you live by?
“Be a duck and let it all roll off your back,” said to me by a drunk in a dive bar. I had a very rough first day in TV and went to the bar to drink away my pathetic self-loathing and this drunk guy put my life in perspective in one sentence.
What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I ride a Harley-Davidson motorcycle and I’m not a doctor nor do I play one on TV. Sorry that was two things.
What inspires you?
Those people who make seemingly insurmountable odds their bitch.
How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?
Mentally or physically? Hopefully 25.
If you could master one skill you don’t have right now, what would it be?
Krav Maga, cause ya never know when you might get jumped by Ninja assassins.
What brings you the greatest joy?
My dog Griffin, my man Deke and anytime I can get back to nature. Oh and oWOW Internet Radio rocks!
